Something’s happened to society in America. During the pandemic, somebody somewhere imposed a mandate on landlords to not evict tenants for missing rent payments. There was ZERO stipulation to prove that they were unemployed and had absolutely no access to 401K’s, Investments, Credit or Family.
To fast forward and realize what this has created is every apartment manager, condo HOA, trailer park owners etc to impose unobtainable regulations and background checks. Employed Citizens who are showing up to jobs are having to live in their cars and hide their situations. Family and friends they could otherwise stay with for added revenue to those households are barred and banned as sneaking the in could jeopardize everything.
Back during the Depression, the way many survived was buddying up in a 2 room flat with each set of parents in a room and both families of children in the living room. This leads to a discussion on emotionally coping with society as it’s taking 3 incomes to barely exist.
It also leads to asking if it’s legal to live in your car in the US and where one can park to sleep. ( A few locations are hospital parking lots, truck stops, 24 hour grocery stores & fitness centers. ) We’ll be addressing this issue further as long haul truckers live the lifestyle and have conjured up a few tips:
- Car window sun shades
- Small camping stove
- Male and Female (she wee) urinals
- An Ice Chest
- A fire proof bill box that locks
- A post office box
- Rubbermaid containers that conceal contents
Shelters are often not safe and not everyone can get down on a floor mat to sleep or get up again. Half are allergic to the other half’s pets or cigarette odor etc. For those who have secured night shifts and need to sleep days, the shelter’s aren’t open. Many many things need to be addressed. The more that realize the conditions exist the more they may be open to helping and advocating.
