What sets the farmhouse lifestyle apart from the rest of society? It’s the television in the main living space. Back in the day you had a sizable front hangout porch, a parlor for special visitors, family piano recitals & special Sunday dress occasions. There may even have been a study slash library and none of the spaces contained electronics!
wait… I take that back… The old dishwasher sized radio cabinets to gather round for radio theater and updates on troops overseas.
We’re slowly taking the walls off our spaces for open concept living. The former parlor became a much larger “great room”, the study, a family room or bonus space… Whether the extra OFF THE MAIN FLOOR space is up or down, that’s where the TV and all it’s get up goes!
Just this one simple logistical adjustment and a “family rule” of “family space” being “family time” with a “family bucket” for the “family smart phones” to live during meals, homework, game night and impromptu heart to hearts, and you’ve won!
We may no longer have a piano in every household but what about a chess table with a couple chairs or a vintage games shelf & a tote full of craft supplies. A card table and cards work. What about a pantry area with ingredients needed for an impromptu treat baking session with grade schoolers or surprise treats for family & friends. The Farm Home lifestyle is as much about attitude as it is about decor!
